2024 Terraviva Competition, Finalist, with Mingxun Zou, Tremiti Islands, Italy
Located on the coastal area of San Domino Island among the Tremiti Islands, the "ROLLING WAVES" lighthouse is a harmonious blend of history and contemporary design. On one hand, this project embraces a philosophy of "restoration in kind," maintaining the authenticity of the lighthouse’s exterior by preserving its exposed brick texture while refreshing the facade with a layer of white lime.
On the other hand, the design draws inspiration from the majestic beauty of the sea, particularly the natural process of waves carving out caves. Both interior and exterior spaces of the lighthouse aim to create a more refined and rhythmical interpretation of "the waves" concept. By maintaining an organic quality while introducing repetitive but varied curving or arching moments, the new hotel seeks to frame a unique and memorable impression for guests.
